We had dinner at Cafe Umbra, with a large group on a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon, in April 2003. I think we were the only people in the restaurant that afternoon, and the food and service were fine. Last night (March 27, 2004) we had dinner with a couple from the suburbs at Cafe Umbra, and the service and meal were outstanding. The wait staff was considerate and attentive ( our friend has an allergy to nuts, which was handled with great consideration, leading to a pretty stress-free meal); the waiter offered unlisted wine options, the wine prices were reasonable, and despite a full house, we were never rushed. The Bostob bib salad with tangerine dressing was a perfect balence of sweet and sour: the lamb chops were tender and delicious. I had the succulent road duck, with prune-something risotto, which sounds odd, but was terrific. The price was very reasonable for four ( under $ 200, including two bottles of wine and after dinner drinks). We can't believe it took a year for us to get back to cafe Umbra.
