Living in Nebraska, almost 500 miles away, I only get to Chicago on occasion now. Twice a year at the most. I always visit the area that I grew up in near Sheridan and Foster, not too far from the Green Mill. I remember being told a few years back during one of my 'back home' that this was Al Capone's favorite hangout....for drinks that is. I was intrigued enough to visit the lounge for the first time. The Green Mill is a must see for any Chicago tourist. The room itself reeks of antiquity and a walking through the front door is comparable to entering a time zone that brings you back to when Grandma was a swinger. I'd like to see the plastic drinking glasses replaced with glass, but they must have their reasons for that particular selection. - Tricia O'Neil, 08/25/2001
the green mill is full of history, from the jukebox to the decor, to the scrapbook/yearbook behind the bar, to the trapdoor beneath the back bar for when it used to be a mob owned speakeasy... PLUS.. the jazz featured there is great!!! check out the jam session late night Friday's and or the headliners.. weekdays are more mellow yet equally full of quality music.. Oh yeah on Sun. nights.. the Uptown Poetry Slam .. the fit hits the shan every nite.. good times!! Cover ~ cheap... Drinks ~ uhhh depends on how deep your pockets are.. Check it out.. 4802 N.
