    Detail for Trotter Inn :

Trotter Inn is or I should say was a tavern on State street in Chicago for over 75 years. Originally opened by Mary Trotter from County Mayo Ireland. Run primarily by her son Patrick Joseph (Joe) Trotter from his coming of age to the early 1980's when he retired and offered the business to his two daughters Francine and Joanna, only Francine took it and ran it till 2005 when it closed. Land sold by the land owner to make way for another high end hotel. This tavern survived many massive changes in this neighborhood and in Chicago itself. It started as a local for the primarily Irish immigrants along with French, German and Polish immigrants and first born Americans of those same nationalities. Mary Trotter came off the boat from Ireland to Chicago to live first on Rush St. then State St. Later the bar became a haven for the local construction workers & Service Industry people. It was always a popular place even among the slick niteclubs & later the fancy places that surrouned it. An old piece of Chicago's dying history. - J. Trotter, 11/08/2007
