Chicago residents concerned about the catastrophic effects of global warming will rally together to urge Congress to cut carbon dioxide emissions 80 by 2050. The event is part of the Step it Up 2007 campaign, the largest day of citizen action focusing on global warming in our nations history. Saturdays event is more than a rally, with activity tables, climate change information displays, lecturers and a finale of a giant message spelled out by the crowd, followed by music by local band, Das Kapital. Lecturers will focus on climate change issues and mitigation strategies specific to the Midwest, and include Sadhu Johnston, Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Environment, Howard Learner, Executive Director of the Environmental Law and Policy Center (ELPC), Henry Henderson, Midwest Regional Director for the National Resources Defense Fund (NRDC), Peter Haas of the Center for Neighborhood Technology, and Fred Carter of Climate Justice Chicago. - wm, 04/06/2007
