ELVIS IS IN THE BUILDING!

ARRIVE DRESSED AS ELVIS TO THE HIT MUSICAL ALL SHOOK UP AND GET FREE TICKETS TO A MARRIOTT PRODUCTION IN 2009

The Rock ‘n Roll Musical Featuring Elvis’ Biggest Hits Runs Through December 6, 2008

Lincolnshire, IL — Ever dream of being Elvis for the day? From November 1 through December 6, The Marriott Theatre invites all Chicagoans to show their love for the King of Rock ‘n Roll by wearing their Blue Suede Shoes, sequins and leisure suits to the hit musical ALL SHOOK UP. Any theatergoer dressed as Elvis will receive a certificate to redeem for two free tickets to a Marriott production of their choice in 2009 (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, The Light in Piazza, Hairspray, or My Fair Lady). To obtain their certificate, costumed “Elvises” should visit the box office 30 minutes prior to the show. ALL SHOOK UP runs through December 6 at the Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Drive. Hailed by NBC-TV as “The best rock show since Grease,” ALL SHOOK UP features an electrifying score of over 24 Elvis Presley favorites including “Jailhouse Rock,” “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Love Me Tender,” “Heartbreak Hotel”, “A Little Less Conversation,” and “Hound Dog.” The production’s book is by Joe DiPietro, the acclaimed creator of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change and Over the River and Through the Woods. ALL SHOOK UP, a modern Rock ‘n Roll version of Shakespeare’s romantic comedy Twelfth Night, is set in a conservative Midwestern town in the summer of 1955. Chad, a more motorcycle ridin’, rovin’ roustabout pulls into town. Natalie, a mechanic at a local gas station, falls madly in love with him and hopes to hit the open road to “Follow that Dream,” but the mayor of the town believes he’s the "Devil in Disguise,” and looks to put a stop to his rock ‘n roll. Audiences of all ages just “Can't Help Falling in Love” with this hot-rod musical which took Broadway by storm. A feel-good story of how a soulful young roustabout helps a whole town find love and discover the magic of rock ‘n roll, ALL SHOOK UP is a thrilling new musical extravaganza. ALL SHOOK UP stars returning favorite Tyler Hanes as the rovin’ roustabout Chad. Hanes had audiences and critics alike cheering in the Marriott’s 2005 production of FOOTLOOSE. Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune proclaimed, “To call Hanes a triple-threat doesn’t even begin to evoke his chops or his charm – this handsome kid can act, sing and turn the teenage girls in the front row to jelly.” Opposite Hanes is Chicago’s newest star, Jessie Mueller as Natalie. ALL SHOOK UP also stars Melody Betts as Sylvia, Don Forston as Sheriff Earl, Chasten Harmon as Lorraine, Ross Lehman as Jim, Dennis Moench as Dennis, Matt Raftery as Dean Hyde, Paula Scrofano as Mayor Matilda Hyde, and Christine Sherrill as Miss Sandra. The ensemble features Angela Brydon, Nicky Cooper, Nina Fluke, Brandon Koller, Ericka Mac, David Morrison, Ano Okera, Max Quinlan, Jay Reynolds Jr., Jason Shuffler, Cessalee Smith-Stoval, and Jody Cole Wood. The artistic team for ALL SHOOK UP is led by director and choreographer Marc Robin with Musical Direction by Ryan Nelson, Set Design by Tom Ryan, Costume Design by Nancy Missimi, Lighting Design by Diane Ferry Williams, Sound Design by Cecil Averett and Properties Design is by Greg Isaac. PORCHLIGHT MUSIC THEATRE’S HIT MUSICAL

CANDIDE CELEBRATES HALLOWEEN WITH

$10 OFF ALL TICKETS ON OCTOBER 31

CHICAGO—Theatergoers will receive $10 off tickets to the Halloween performance of Porchlight Music Theatre’s hit musical comedy Candide at 7:45 p.m. on Friday, October 31. The witty operetta, based on the 1759 French masterpiece by Voltaire, is running through November 2 at Theatre Building Chicago, 1225 West Belmont. For reservations call 773.325.9884.

Featuring a legendary score by Leonard Bernstein, Candide has become a beloved musical with a great following of admirers. Part sophisticated operetta, part wacky screwball comedy with shades of Monty Python, this funny, irreverent satire is the perfect musical expression of Voltaire’s tongue-in-cheek send-up of optimistic philosophies.

In one lightning-paced act, the hapless Candide is expelled from home, drafted into the Bulgarian army, brought before the Spanish Inquisition, swindled out of a fortune, shipwrecked on a desert isle, and separated time and again from his true love Cunegonde. Through it all, Candide remembers the lesson of his dear master Dr. Pangloss: that “everything is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.”

Candide features a Tony-award winning book by Hugh Wheeler (Sweeney Todd), and one of the most sensational musical scores of the 20th century by Leonard Bernstein. The classic score features the famous “Overture,” “Glitter and Be Gay,” and the stunning “Make Our Garden Grow.’” In a dazzling choice, the Porchlight Music Theatre production integrates the orchestra into the middle of the action. Indeed the whole theater has been adapted to involve the audience and the musicians more fully into the show. No seat is more than a few feet from the action and there’s plenty of action. This 100 minute show keeps the audience chuckling from beginning to end.

This new version premiered at the Chelsea Theatre Centre in Brooklyn in 1973, and moved to Broadway in 1974. The production went on to win three Tony Awards including Best Director and Best Book. The 1997 Broadway revival earned four Tony Award nominations.

Jeff Award winning actor David Girolmo leads the cast of Candide as Dr. Voltaire/Pangloss. Mr. Girolmo was also featured in Candide on Broadway in 1997 under the original direction of Harold Prince.

Candide features Jeff Citation winner Ryan Lanning as the hapless Candide with newcomer Caitlin Collins as his beloved Cunegonde. Their adventures are misdirected by a tragically funny old lady (Kristen Freilich), their vain brother Maximilian (Jeremy Rill) and a saucy maid Paquette (Sarah Hayes). The quick changing and hard working ensemble includes: Christin Boulette, Cameron Brune, Sean Effinger-Dean, Gerald Richardson, Shannon Strodel, Jennifer Tjepkema, Joseph Tokarz and Daniel Waters.

The show is directed by Porchlight Music Theatre’s Artistic Director, Jeff Award winner, L. Walter Stearns, with Music Direction by Jeff Award winner Eugene Dizon and Choreography by Andrew Waters. Costume Design is by After Dark Award winner Bill Morey and Scenic Design by Kurt Sharp.

Theatre at the Center

presents

The Classic Holiday Story

A Wonderful Life

Munster, Ind.- Theatre at the Center presents the popular, charming holiday musical A Wonderful Life, running November 13 through December 21 at Theatre at the Center 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, Indiana. Press opening will be November 21. Offering a new spin on the classic holiday film, A Wonderful Life is the musical stage version of the Frank Capra film classic “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

Celebrating 60 years as America’s favorite holiday tradition, It’s a Wonderful Life tops the American Film Institute’s list of most inspiring films of all time. A Wonderful Life is the remarkable collaboration of Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winner Sheldon Harnick and Grammy and Emmy Award-winner Joe Raposo.

Blending music, comedy and drama, A Wonderful Life is set in the small town of Bedford Falls, New York in the 1940s, and is the story of George Bailey, who has a heart of gold and is destined to live a small town life, despite his big dreams of seeing the world. When financial ruin threatens to destroy the family business, George considers ending it all and wonders what life would be like if he had never been born. But Clarence, an angel working to get his wings, intervenes, helping George to see how many lives he has touched and how dwindled his town would be if he had never been born. Audiences will meet all of the memorable characters of the town- Uncle Billy, Mr. Potter, Mary, Violet, Bert, and others – as they help George rediscover that the greatest gifts in life begin at home. A Wonderful Life is a timeless story of love and redemption, perfect for the whole family.

According to director and choreographer Stacey Flaster, “I have such fond childhood memories of watching the movie It’s a Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stuart and Donna Reed. Now, directing the musical version A Wonderful Life at Theatre at the Center, I decided to watch the movie again after many years. It’s still hard to watch George as he struggles through life, never leaving Bedford Falls, and yet not knowing, until the end, how truly loved and blessed he is. But this time, I watched the movie through different eyes. I saw people not being able to afford their mortgages, people losing their homes, people losing their life’s savings—and suddenly this wasn’t a movie about what once was. Never before have the themes in It’s A Wonderful Life been more poignant than today. I hope the audience can see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. That family and friends and caring for one another have always provided the light. “

A Wonderful Life stars Rod Thomas as “George Bailey,” Natalie Ford as “Mary Hatch” and James Harms as “Clarence” the angel. The supporting cast includes veteran actors Dale Benson, Ron Keaton, Skip Lundby and Robert Hildreth.

The artistic team for A Wonderful Life is led by director and choreographer Stacey Flaster and the Musical Direction will be by Bill Underwood. Scenic Designer and Technical Director is Ann Davis. Lighting Design is by Shelley Strasser-Holland, Costume Design is by Brenda Winstead, Sound Design is by Barry Funderburg, Props Design is by Libby Fandrei, Production Manager is Chuck Gessert, and Stage Manager is Jill Yetsky.

Founded in 1991, Theatre at the Center has grown into a year-round professional, equity theater at its home, The Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, Indiana. Theatre at the Center is conveniently located off I-80/94, just 35 minutes from downtown Chicago.
