Open for lunch Mon - Fri; dinner served daily, food served until 11:30 pm Fri - Sat. Enjoy classic old-world Southern Italian food in this small, relaxing storefront restaurant. Huge bowls of pasta abound; a half-order is enough for two hungry diners. Pasta, chicken, and veal are available with many different preparations. A favorite dish is the zuppa di pesce which is a gargantuan bowl of pasta filled to the brim with clams, squid, mussels, and octopus and topped with a flavorful marinara sauce. Whet your appetite with an order of crispy bruschetta or steamed mussels served in either red or white sauce. Huge side dishes of broccoli, rapini, and spinach are also good for sharing. This is an excellent home-style Italian restaurant in one of the several Little Italy sections of Chicago. Entree portions are very large and can normally serve two. The service is friendly and attentive. I enthusiastically recommend the restaurant in general with valet parking and a parking lot 1/2 block to the west. In terms of the food, the Cavatelli and the Chicken Marsala are excellent. Reservations are normally necessary, but if there are just two, you can easily eat at the bar. - pg in chicago, 07/09/2001
