This chic, upscale ethnic restaurant fits right in with its trendy neighbors. The decor is a combination of sea (mar) and sun (sol) themes and is as pleasing as the delicious Cuban and Mexican cuisine. Over a dozen tapas choices, all under $10, include tostones which are green plantains in a garlic mojo and datiles en vueltos which are Medjool dates wrapped in smoked bacon with a reduction of red beet. Recommended entrees include grilled skirt steak served accompanied by a charred tomato sauce with sweet pepper service, and skewered shrimp glazed in a chili sauce and sweet guava and served with a cheesy guacamole. - sys, 09/02/2002
