Detail for Soldier Field : Stadium

[an error occurred while processing this directive]

The $630 million project opens on September 29th, 2003, when the Bears face the Packers on Monday Night Football. Mainly funded by city hotel tax dollars, the stadium features luxury suites on the 50-yard line which run $299,000 annually. The cheapest seats are $45, for a corner grandstand seat. Over 151 feet tall, the new stadium has 61,500 seats. Architectural credit goes to Chicago architect Dirk Lohan, Carlos Zapata, and Ben Wood. The playing field is comprised of a blend of six different grasses.

The original stadium opened in 1924 as a site for track meets and civic gatherings. It is named Soldier Field to honor of the U.S. soldiers killed in World War I. - sys, 09/22/2003

This stadium is filled with the ghost's of many great players and coaches..i hope that it lives forever because it is a true national icon.i have many, many great memories of this stadium--may she live forever!!! - anonymous, 04/30/2003

I really don't like it. It is so rundown. I hope they fix it up. I've been to most football stadiums and I think that the

new stadium in Foxboro is amazing. Hopefully once they renovate Soldier Field it will be as nice as Foxboro.

Soldier Field is unreal. I have a been a Bears fan since I can remember and I finally had a chance to go there last year. I live in North Dakota so it is a pretty long trip, but it was worth it. Walking up to it and seeing those columns and the flags blowing in the Chicago Wind. It could have been the greatest sight I have ever seen. - Jim Seidler , seidlerj@e-mailcity.com, 07/27/2001
