The Northern Illinois University Jazz Ensemble directed by Ron Carter will perform Thursday, February 2, at 7 PM in the Clarence Johnson Auditorium of North High School, located at 4436 Main Street in Downers Grove. It should prove to be a lively and fun concert for all ages. Guest trumpet soloist will be Claudio Roditi. The program will open with short performances by the North and South High School jazz ensembles. With a roster that includes students from Miami to Milwaukee, the NIU Jazz Ensemble has long been considered one of the best college jazz bands in the world. Ron Carter and the NIU Jazz Ensemble will hold a clinic during the day with the Downers Grove North and South Jazz Bands. The evening public concert will conclude the day's activities. Trumpet soloist Claudio Roditi integrates post-bop elements and Brazilian rhythmic concepts with ease and plays with power and lyricism. Doors open for the performance on Thursday, February 2 at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $8.00 adults/$6 students, and may be purchased at the door.
