This Japanese restaurant features unusual menu items such as mackerel pike, salmon roe as a noodle-dish ingredient, and a yogurt drink called Calpico. Reasonably priced dinner specials are noted on the specials board at the entrance, and may include cucumber salad and spinach with sesame dressing along with a main dish. If you want to go where the 'natives' eat, then Renga Tei is the place to be. This is the best Japanese food in Chicago bar none. I live in the Gold Coast and most of the so-called sushi restaurants around here are in it for the quick buck, offering way over-priced items. Renga Tei offers quality food at a reasonable price. I love sushi--and I LOVE Renga-Tei. Out of all the sushi restaurants in which I've eaten, this is the absolute best. The food is always fresh and delicious, even the salad! The service is terrific. Outstanding! - sharon, 12/11/2002
