I love a quiet, intimate luncheon with a good friend or companion. Tulips, located in Old St.Paul along gentrified Selby Avenue is a cozy, seductive nook cozy enough to invite romance and serious enough to encourage corporate wheeling and dealing. I love it. The onion soup is classic, cheesy and filled with flavor and home-made croutons. The head waiter flirts with middle aged women as well as chickie-babes, and makes every meal a sashay into fantasy. The salads are excessive and fabulous and the daily quiche is sold out by 1 PM. Famous along the avenue, Tulips is less expensive than Frosts, more comodious than the Lex, and classier than O'Gara's or any other restaurant with the word 'Latte' in the title. I love it. In fact, I'm proposing to my next husband in a corner table next weekend. If I tip the head waiter, maybe he'll put the diamond in the quiche.....? - Kristine Holmgren, 03/31/2002
