The Minneapolis Community Development Agency, which owns both the Historic Orpheum and State Theatres, acquired the Orpheum in 1988 from the musician Bob Dylan for $1.4 million and financed the $10 million restoration and expansion of the theatre. Theatergoers paid for restoration of the 2,650 seat showplace through a historic restoration fee on all State and Orpheum theatre tickets.

The MCDA purchased the State Theatre in the late 1980s and provided $8.8 million in funding for the State Theatre as part of its assistance for construction of LaSalle Plaza, a retail, entertainment and office project, on the block bounded by Hennepin and LaSalle avenues and Eighth and Ninth streets. The 2,176 seat State Theatre re-opened in 1991.

My husband and I had seats at tonight's performance of *Doubt* -- Main Floor, Row R, #5 and #6. WOW, I have never sat through a more aggravating performance -- WHAT is wrong with your sound system?! The speaker mounted under the center of the mezzanine was full of static and created a 'delay' effect in everything that was said/mic'd onstage -- the only way this was bearable was to sit with my finger in my ear the entire time to block the speaker noise on my left side. These were expensive tickets. - Beth C, 02/27/2007

The newly renovated State Theater is a great venue to visit. The opulence of the interior is well worth the visit. Seating in the theater is comfortable and spacious. Best seating is in the Loge sections rows AA through EE as these are close to the stage and are fairly private area similar to box seating at many theaters. Amenities are well laid out for convenience. Great pre-show restaurants are in the same building-Palomino-Rock Bottom Brewery and Capital City Grille. Allow plenty of time for eating ahaead as these restaurants are very popular. More restaurants of high quality are just a short walk away (2 short blocks) on the Nicollet Mall. Parking is varied from heated underground parking in the same building to many parking ramps within one block of the theater. - Colin Spriestersbach, 11/29/2000
